So one my friends from college got married the other week, and I went down to Ahmedabad for the wedding.
( More here )
I was in Ahmedabad for three days, so we went sightseeing with a few members of the wedding party one morning. There are some famous temples in Ahmedabad, and so we visited two of them.
One of them is a replica of the Vaishno devi shrine, which is located in and on a mountain in Jammu and Kashmir. Devotees believe that they are cleansed of their sins if they take the path up the mountain on foot - the harder the path, the greater is the cleansing.
There's this one bit in particular where the path goes through the actual mountain itself, and people have to squeeze through this really narrow crack in sheer rock. My uncle (who's been there) tells me that it's supposed to represent us moving down the birth canal - in that in going on this pilgrimage, we are reborn in the same pure and innocent state as when we are babies.
Which is all well and good, but this replica had the same thing - on a smaller scale, of course, and you have to pass through it to get to the main temple, where the godess idol is. My friends went through it, blithely expecting me to follow.
Now, this was difficult, because I have slight claustrophobia.
Not the kind that makes it difficult to get into elevators, but bad enough that I had sweaty palms and a pounding heart at the thought of getting down on my hands and knees and crawling through a tunnel of rock even only a few feet long.
I suspect this phobia of mine stems from an incident back when I was about three years old, when my older brother drew the covers - a very thick quilt - over me when I was getting ready for bed...and then proceeded to SIT ON ME. Cutting off my air supply. And leaving me flailing in the dark. :/
It was equally bad when I went to Giza in Egypt a few years ago. Now, I have a bit of a thing for history and culture, so I begged my dad to let me go down into one of the pyramids that was open to the public. He agreed to come with me (my mother and brother didn't want to) and off we went.
It was an experience not to be forgotten, mostly because the passageway actually got so narrow at one point that I had to creep along sideways with the wall before me being three inches away from my nose. My dad had to practically pry my fingers off his hand when we got back topside, heh.
It wasn't so bad at this Vaishno replica, but I did have the same irrational panic and the fear - but I got through it somehow, and my friends - who didn't know about my mild phobia - were suitably apologetic for leaving me behind once they found out. So all was well, in the end.
Anyhow. All this makes me curious. Do any of you have any phobias, no matter how mild? Share with me, flist!

It seems Aunty Beeb reckons that most people will only have read six of the hundred books in this list. Bold those books you've read in their entirety, italicize the ones you started, but didn't finish.
( List )
I once read a fanfic based almost entirely on 'The Time Traveller's Wife' without knowing it, so I wonder if I can say I've...half read the book? *ponders*
Also, speaking of books: what was the scariest one you've ever read? I was watching a horror movie just yesterday, which explains the segue, at least in my head. :P
For me it was 'Kiss the Girls'. I was only thirteen when I read it, and the book opens with this bit where the psycho killer hides in his (high school classmate) victim's A/C vents, then creeps out at night and rapes and kills her. And her mother. And her little sister.
And then of course there was his friend/partner in crime, who liked to keep body parts of the women he raped and killed.
*shudders*
That book put me off slasher movies for life, I tell you. And made me compulsively check my room (all the little hiding spots and crannies) for nearly six months after I'd read it. :P
So. Now it's your turn! Share with me! I'm bored at work and I demand it! *stares compellingly*

Remember when I said I had minor dental surgery to see if my wisdom teeth would take a hint and not bother me any more?
It didn't work.
I had to have both of my wisdom teeth out this Sunday (upper and lower) so for the past few days I've been subsisting on mostly a liquid diet. Which would not bother me so much except for the fact that I can get my stitches out (INSIDE my mouth OMG D:) only next Monday. There should be a word for the itchy-burning-pain I now feel in my gums.
But really, the thing that bothers me the most is no hot liquids = no coffee. Or tea. And my head feels unpleasantly fuzzy due to all the weakness from three days of solid foods deprivation and I need something to jump start my brain, especially now that I'm back at work. D: *woes*
Argh.
Heh. Looking back, it really does seem like all I'm doing this month is whine and bitch at you all, doesn't it? :P
Also: I need an angry/annoyed icon.

I really liked it as a kid (particularly the fact that it used the word 'expectorating' XD) and it's one of those songs that has stood the test of time—in that I don't shudder and cringe at my younger self's taste, because I still like it.
Which I think qualifies it as my favourite Disney song.
So, now it's your turn: what was/is your fave Disney song? Tell me! *bounces compellingly*
